On January 23, the French outdoor vacation sector witnessed the emergence of a new trade union organization in the Occitania region: the merger of the federations of accommodation facilities in Languedoc-Roussillon and Midi-Pyrénées gave birth to the Fédération de l’hôtellerie de plein air Occitanie (FHPA Oc). A significant milestone for industry professionals who can now rely on a larger and more representative union, consisting of 850 members spread across 1,300 campsites.
The FHPA Oc will therefore take on an even more crucial role as an intermediary with institutions and administrative bodies. It is worth noting that Occitania is the French region with the highest number of campsites (1,300 structures with around 160,000 pitches), and in 2023, it recorded a remarkable 29 million overnight stays, contributing to a total turnover of 925 million euros.
Signing the merger agreement were Philippe Robert, former president of the HPA Languedoc-Roussillon federation and now president of the newly formed FHPA Oc, and Angel Fernandez, his counterpart from the Midi-Pyrénées union, now vice president of the new entity. They will collaborate with the 40 members of the Board of Directors and an Executive Committee elected for the day-to-day management of the association.
