Germany’s leisure vehicle market showed encouraging signs of recovery in April 2025, particularly in the motorhome segment. According to new figures from the Caravaning Industrie Verband (CIVD), a total of 10,487 new motorhomes were registered during the month – a notable increase of 12.4% compared to April 2024.
This rebound follows a slower start to the year, largely due to a “late” Easter, which had pushed February and March registration figures below 2024 levels. Meanwhile, the caravan segment saw a more modest decline in April, with 2,615 new registrations, down 4.9% year-on-year.

Looking at the period from January to April 2025, the overall picture remains mixed. A total of 32,117 new leisure vehicles were registered – a 7.7% decrease compared to the same period in 2024. Specifically, motorhome registrations fell by 6.0%, totalling 27,376 units, while caravan registrations were down 5.4%, with 7,356 units registered over the four-month period.
Despite the year-to-date decline, the strong performance of the motorhome sector in April points to a positive underlying trend. Daniel Onggowinarso, Managing Director of the CIVD, had already noted that private demand remained high, and that the used vehicle market continued to perform well. April’s figures appear to support this view, especially for motorhomes, buoyed by the start of the holiday travel season.
