Breda University of Applied Sciences (BUAS) and its two partner universities – University of Rijeka and Universitat de Girona (UdG) – celebrated the historical moment of starting with the first group of enthusiastic students in the multiple master’s degrees in Sustainable Outdoor Hospitality Management (SOHM). The students are true pioneers and will be the future leaders of sustainable campsite resort management, coming from The Netherlands, Belgium, China, and Croatia.
The new SOHM Master’s programme starts in Breda, where students connect to the global context of the campsite industry. The first semester includes a strong industry exposure programme with field excursions to key campsites in the Netherlands, a deep design thinking innovation challenge in collaboration with a campsite in Breda, several guest lectures by our academic and industry partners and partner-student meetups during the Dutch Vakantiebeurs in January 2024.
After this, in February 2024 students will move to the campus of Opatija, in Croatia, where they will be working on the ground on management assignments about campsite operations, HRM, financial reporting, and sustainable management.
In the second year of the programme, students are received by UdG, looking into the theoretical and critical analysis of camping and outdoor hospitality industry topics, and during the last semester they write a dissertation and work as a trainee on sustainable development challenges in a campsite anywhere in the world.
The Master SOHM is designed and implemented in close collaboration with the campsite industry. The three partner universities have established strong partnership relations with the following companies that offer all these students a €5,000 Scholarship: ANWB, ACSI, ADAC, Vacanze col Cuore, and Carthago. These companies offer scholarships also to students in the next generation in 2024. But also guest lectures, company visits, internships, and project participation.
