Camping in the Netherlands has never been more popular. Not only during the high season but also in the traditionally quieter months, Dutch campsites are seeing a steady increase in visitors. The sector has reached a new milestone, surpassing 10 million overnight stays in the first half of 2025.
This result comes from an analysis by ACSI, based on official data from Statistics Netherlands (CBS), showing that between January and June there were 10,276,000 nights recorded in Dutch campsites, compared to 9.78 million in 2024, an increase of over 5%. Two-thirds of the stays were by Dutch campers, while the remaining third came from international visitors. The total number of guests reached 2.5 million, up 15% year-on-year, confirming the growing appeal of short and flexible camping holidays.
Foreign visitors double in ten years
According to Ramon van Reine, CEO of ACSI, the phenomenon has taken on remarkable proportions: “In 2015 there were around 7 million overnight stays in the first half of the year; today, the increase is 46%. International guests have more than doubled, rising from 330,000 to nearly 900,000”. Compared to the pre-pandemic period, the figures are also striking: +35% total overnight stays and +50% more nights spent by international campers than in 2019.
The outlook for the remainder of the year is just as promising. “Considering that July and August represent the absolute peak, with around 12 million overnight stays in 2024, all signs point to 2025 becoming another record-breaking year for Dutch camping,” concludes Van Reine.
