Campsites along France’s coastline now have a final chance to participate in a program aimed at tackling the growing challenge of coastal erosion. The call for expressions of interest (AMI) invites applications to conduct “territorial diagnostics” designed to help outdoor hospitality businesses and local authorities adapt to the impacts of erosion. The application deadline is January 31, 2025.
Experts warn that 25% of France’s coastline faces erosion risks in the near future, threatening many coastal campsites. In response, the General Directorate for Planning, Housing, and Nature has launched a service to assist selected regions. The initiative offers:
- Territorial assessments to support municipalities and businesses in developing adaptation strategies.
- Operational reviews for campsite operators, analyzing factors such as customer demographics, economic performance, environmental impact, and infrastructure compliance. These evaluations aim to identify areas for modernization and spatial reorganization.
The program is open to inter-municipal public cooperation establishments (EPCI) in metropolitan France and overseas territories. To qualify, applicants must have coastal areas at risk and at least one municipality actively engaged in adaptation measures, as outlined in Decree No. 2024-531 of June 10, 2024. Priority will be given to EPCIs that have not previously received diagnostic support through earlier AMI cycles.
