Italian open-air tourism continues to grow. According to the latest figures from FAITA Federcamping, the 2026 season recorded an average increase of around 2% in arrivals compared with the consolidated figure for 2025 (the year in which 11.2 million arrivals and 74 million overnight stays were recorded). Two factors contributed to this positive result: the favourable weather that characterised the season and the gradual extension of the opening period for accommodation facilities.
According to estimates by FAITA, 2026 is proving to be, in particular, the year of the lakes, with arrivals expected to increase by 2.6% and turnover by 1.6% in lake destinations. This figure confirms a trend already highlighted during the season: lakes are gaining increasing importance within the open-air offering, also thanks to the strong international component of demand.
Seaside destinations are maintaining their position, while the mountains are also showing signs of growth. For Alberto Granzotto, President of FAITA Federcamping, 2026 represents an important moment for open-air tourism, following years of investment in the quality of the offering, from sustainability and digitalisation through to services: “In addition to the extension of the season, we are seeing the opening of new campsites and holiday villages close to historic town centres, a sign that those who choose an open-air holiday are not only looking at the sea and lakes, but are also seeking new experiences and stimuli”.
FAITA at InOut 2026
The Federation will be present at InOut | The Hospitality Community, taking place at Rimini Expo Centre from 14 to 16 October 2026, with its own institutional stand (Hall B5, stand 101), focusing primarily on AI and sustainability.
The first event, scheduled for 14 October, will focus on the performance of the 2026 season and the outlook for the sector, with a specific focus on the role of artificial intelligence in open-air businesses. The Artificial Intelligence Handbook for Open-Air Tourism Entrepreneurs, produced by FAITA Federcamping in collaboration with CISET of Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, will also be presented, together with the initial findings of the national survey on the adoption of artificial intelligence in the sector.
The following day, 15 October, attention will instead turn to the environmental sustainability of the open-air offering. The discussion, featuring Andrea Massaini, Marketing Manager at Vannucci Piante, and Sergio Redaelli, Chief Executive Officer of Crippaconcept, will focus on the relationship between accommodation facilities, green spaces and natural heritage.
The aim is to move beyond a purely aesthetic conception of green spaces, enhancing the landscape and vegetation as integrated elements of the hospitality design, with solutions capable of reducing the environmental impact of facilities and, where possible, contributing to environmental regeneration. FAITA’s presence at InOut will be rounded off by the FAITA Agorà, which will host the FAITA Emilia-Romagna General Assembly, as well as a series of meetings with institutional and commercial partners.
