The G20Spiagge (G20S) network made up of a number of Italian municipalities, which alone attract 70 million tourist presences, 16% of the total tourist presences in Italy, has drawn up a document entitled Status of Bathing Cities, which summarises a series of rules to be adhered to in order to overcome the difficulties of cities that go from 10,000 inhabitants to 200,000 during the summer season, the so-called “accordion cities”. Now this project will pass to the State, which will summarise it in a legislative draft aimed at changing the administrative behaviour of Italian seaside municipalities forever.

The meeting between G20S and institutions

All this was defined during the meeting held in Rome between the network municipalities and the Minister of Tourism, Daniela Santanchè. The request formulated by the mayor of Cavallino-Treporti, Roberta Nesto, on behalf of everyone for a regulatory definition of the Status of Bathing City was positively received by the minister, who will set up a technical table within 15 days.

“Since 2018 we have been working to understand,” said G20Spiagge coordinator Roberta Nesto, “whether our differences in terms of presence, geographical location, history, and infrastructure could prevent a national set of regulations: but the more we went on, the more we delved into the matter, the more we commissioned studies and research, the more we realised, we mayors, that the problems were common. And we built a proposal, a precise and unique Status project. Thinking that it now becomes the basis for our administrative behaviour cannot but make us satisfied. Yes, today is a historic day for the Italian seaside resort sector!’.
