In Spain, Holy Week is always a solid indicator for the upcoming season. The online newspaper Camping Profesional took the opportunity to try to understand what signals are coming for the Iberian market. And the numbers speak of a summer that promises to be very positive. According to data collected by our Spanish colleagues, these days bungalows and mobile homes are close to being sold out, while the pitches could exceed 80 percent occupancy.

The numbers come mainly from the Spanish Federation of Campsites (FEEC), according to which hundreds of establishments will find themselves declaring sold out in the second part of this Easter period. Bookings for bungalows and mobile homes have reached 95% of availability and 80% for pitches dedicated to campers and caravans.

The volume of bookings so far is very good, around 90%, and with many accommodation establishments already full,” said Ana Beriaín, president of the FEEC. “We are confident that the meteorological conditions will allow us not only to maintain this forecast, but also to increase it in the northern and central areas of the peninsula. Furthermore, a large part of our customers are national tourists who have discovered our facilities in recent years and wish to return, attracted by their quality“.

According to the FEEC, the average stay for this Holy Week will be five days, with an average daily expenditure per family of €100-120. The distribution by dates varies according to the festivities of each Autonomous Community and the school calendar of the youngest. 65% of bookings are concentrated on key days, from Thursday April 6 to Monday 10 (5 days), 25% between Wednesday 5 and Sunday 9 (5 days), 10% between Saturday 1 and Sunday 9 (9 days). The Spanish federation also underlines the growth and consolidation of the sector in the last decade, which has come to be considered the second-best vacation option for thousands of families. According to data from the National Institute of Statistics (INE), from 2013 to 2022 travelers increased by almost 57%, exceeding 9.5 million, and overnight stays are close to 45 million, with an increase of 84% in 10 years.
