To encourage growth and competitiveness, private Italian tourism businesses can rely on funding from the Thematic Fund dedicated to the Tourism sector of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (included in the “Recovery and Resilience Italy” Fund of Funds and managed by the EIB). The allocated resources – 805 million (pending formalization) – are indeed intended to support the tourism sector in Italy.

Companies can therefore apply to obtain support for projects involving the construction, renovation, and modernization of tourist facilities and infrastructure (including, among others, public and private cultural and accommodation sites, parks, recreational parks, sports facilities, mountain tourist facilities, and mountain sports facilities); and for investments related to green and digital transition, such as digitization projects and interventions aimed at promoting clean and sustainable mobility connected to tourism.

Beneficiaries and objectives

Beneficiaries include private tourism companies and private companies in general, also operating under public concessions or within public-private partnership schemes, non-profit tourism companies, with legal or operational headquarters in the national territory of the Italian Republic. Companies can request access to multiple financial products: equity, quasi-equity instruments, medium/long-term financing.

The objectives of the Thematic Fund are conceived within the context of the Italian National Recovery and Resilience Plan, and particularly within the framework of “Mission 1: Digitalization, innovation, competitiveness, and culture.” The aim is to achieve a complete renewal of the tourism sector, investing in green and digital transition and the promotion of local and sustainable tourism, but also aiming to increase the provision of tourism services and encouraging business aggregation processes.

How to apply for funding

The Fund has been operational since March 15, 2023, but funding requests can be submitted until June 30, 2025(unless the resources are fully absorbed before this date). The EIB will channel the funds to companies through financial intermediaries, to which online requests should be addressed via the following web addresses: https://fondoturismosostenibile.finint.com/, http://www.equiterspa.com/advisory/fondo-turismo/ or https://bcc.gruppobcciccrea.it/Imprese/fondotematicoturismosostenibile.html.
