During the Electoral General Assembly held on March 18 at the headquarters of CEOE, the Spanish Confederation of Business Organizations, José Luis Álvarez Almeida was elected as the new president of Hostelería de España, the national organization representing Spain’s hospitality sector. At the same meeting, Ana Beriain was appointed vice president, a significant recognition for the business leader who also serves as president of both the Spanish Federation of Campsites (FEEC) and Hostelería de Navarra.
The new president of Hostelería de España Álvarez Almeida succeeds José Luis Yzuel, who recently passed away. In his inauguration speech, Almeida paid an emotional tribute to his predecessor: “José Luis was a teacher, a guide, and a friend. His legacy will live on in each of us. His vision was always one of unity and joint efforts for the sector, representing it under the banner of Hostelería de España.”
An experienced tourism entrepreneur from Asturias, Álvarez Almeida is a well-established figure in the industry. He currently serves as president of OTEA, the Hospitality and Tourism Association of Asturias, and brings with him a long-standing background in the hospitality field, strengthened by his active role in industry associations. He previously served for seven years as vice president of Hostelería de España and also holds the position of vice president of the Oviedo Chamber of Commerce.
In his first address as president, Álvarez Almeida proudly shared his vision for the sector, which he described as being led by “responsible entrepreneurs heading responsible and sustainable businesses, committed to continuous improvement”. He emphasized key areas that require ongoing attention: skills development and professionalization, sustainability, innovation and digital transformation.
He also made a direct appeal to public institutions: “All we ask is that, when lawmakers consider regulating our sector, they listen to us, allow us to express our views, and work together to find concrete solutions”.
The assembly was attended by representatives from all regional associations and key subsectors within the hospitality and food service industry. Also present was Antonio Garamendi, president of CEOE, who highlighted the strategic importance of the hospitality sector: “Entrepreneurs in this industry are the best example of commitment and dynamism in a sector that is fundamental to both our economy and our society. You reflect the quality of the businesswomen and businessmen in this country, your dynamism, your talent, and your ability to innovate and adapt to new circumstances, market shifts, and changing consumer preferences”.
With the appointment of José Luis Álvarez Almeida, a new chapter begins for Hostelería de España, marked by continuity, unity, and the strengthening of a sector that remains crucial to Spain’s economic and social development.
