Spanish startup Kampaoh, specializing in the production, sale, and management of luxury camping tents, is experiencing unstoppable success. Founded in Seville in 2016, with an initial turnover of €45,000, the company closed 2023 with a turnover of €23 million and significant ambitions for 2024.
Kampaoh has revolutionized the concept of glamping by introducing ephemeral tents to the market that seamlessly blend into nature without disturbing it while offering the comfort of a hotel room. This winning formula has captured customers seeking a responsible and sustainable holiday, propelling the company’s success beyond Spanish borders. In the summer of 2023, Kampaoh expanded to France, Italy (Sardinia), and Portugal, as part of a European growth strategy that immediately bore fruit.
Expansion strategy
Currently, Kampaoh’s offering includes 3,500 accommodations spread across 83 campsites, mostly concentrated in Spain. Beyond Spanish borders, Kampaoh tents are installed in 4 campsites in France, with two more coming soon; in 5 campsites in Portugal; and in 2 in Italy, both located in Sardinia.
However, the stated goal is to continue growing. The focus is particularly on increasing the number of sites to install their tents (aiming for 100 campsites by 2024) and introducing the first directly managed campsites. There are also plans for international expansion, entering markets in more exotic destinations like the Philippines and the Dominican Republic. In terms of turnover, the forecast for the current year is to reach €40 million.
About Kampaoh
The company, winner of the BBVA Sustainable Innovation Award in the Tourism category in 2022, has sustainability at the core of its identity. The commitment to reducing the carbon footprint of tourism is evident in every aspect of the company’s operations: tent production is focused in Seville, artisanal, and relies on only sustainable and ecological materials (certified by FSC, PEFC, and Rainforest Alliance). Even for interior furnishings, mostly natural materials such as bamboo, cotton, jute, and rattan are used.
Thanks to their ephemeral architecture, tents can be dismantled at the end of the season, ensuring minimal environmental impact. The company carefully selects destinations and campsites to install its tents, opting for unique locations with rich natural resources or proximity to protected areas. The tents, accommodating 2 to 6 people, come fully equipped for maximum comfort, with some models featuring private bathrooms (integrated or external).
