France is preparing to break the attendance record in open-air accommodation facilities

The season is also progressing well in France, and all the summer signs indicate that this 2022 will close with a new record. This was confirmed by the FNHPA (Federation Nationale de l’Hotellerie de Plein Air), underlining how there are important regional differences. According to the Federation, 130 million overnight stays will be exceeded for the first time. Attendance from abroad – mainly from the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, and the United Kingdom – grew by 44% compared to 2021, returning to the levels of 2019.

Geographically, the coasts are the preferred destinations, while tourism more linked to nature and inland areas has seen a decline in interest. This is at least what can be seen from the words that Nicolas Dayot, president of the FNHPA, said to the French magazine L’OT – L’Officiell des Terrains de camping.

“We are probably heading towards an exceptional season for the French campsite, but we are aware of the strong territorial disparities,” said Dayot. “We must also point out that fires or thunderstorms have interrupted the holidays of some of our customers and destroyed emblematic campsites. We must rebuild and also remain mobilized to better anticipate these climatic events.”
