Messe Stuttgart raises the white flag, as we anticipated last Wednesday giving the news of the transformation of ADAC Camping Gala into a digital event. Although until the last one they worked to ensure that the 2022 edition of the CMT could take place, the latest indications from the local government of Baden-Württemberg have erased all hope. And with it, the event dedicated to the world of holidays and free time. In fact, at least until January 17, 2022, fairs and exhibitions will be banned throughout the region due to the high level of pandemic alarm.

The CMT was scheduled from January 15 to 23. Given the short notice, the organizers preferred to cancel the event. In fact, there is not enough time to create a hybrid edition, like the one held in 2021. Messe Stuttgart had prepared an important plan for health safety and hygiene which, according to the organizers, would have allowed the fair to take place in presence, but unfortunately it will not be possible to put it into practice, at least in 2022. The CMT has in fact been put back to calendar only from January 14 to 22, 2023.

Roland Bleinroth, managing director of Messe Stuttgart, said he was very sorry for the way things went. “Since CMT 2021 was at least held in a digital format, we made intensive preparations in the last few months for an attended event in January together with all partners and exhibitors,” he said. “The booked up halls at CMT clearly show us that an exhibition platform is urgently required”.

Regarding the possibility of organizing a hybrid event, Bleinroth said: ” Apart from the fact that the focal points of CMT are the exchange of information, advisory discussions and direct personal contact, the preparation time for an alternative digital format would now be far too short”. However, the CMT has decided to keep online on its website the directory containing the information already collected on companies, products and innovations in the tourism, camping and outdoor sectors.

The success of events such as the autumn fair in Stuttgart or the Euromotor, which recently took place allowing access only to vaccinated/cured (2G) or vaccinated/cured in possession of a Covid test (2G+) had given good hope. “For a good 10 months, we have fought tirelessly for a successful CMT 2022 and developed new formats and key topics both for end customers and trade visitors,” said Guido von Vacano, member of the management team at Messe Stuttgart. For example, diving tourism and snorkeling should also have been present at the CMT for the first time, thanks to Interdive.

Now the attention of organizers and operators necessarily shifts to the 2023 edition. “We would like to thank everyone who has accompanied us so far and will also continue to do so in future,” concluded von Vacano. The cost of all tickets already purchased for the fair will be reimbursed using the same channels used for the sale.
