Spanish institutions have taken an important step promoting the first national tourism strategy focused on supporting the LGBTQ+ community. In fact, the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism has just signed an international agreement with Queer Destinations, a company specialised in the LGBTQ+ tourism segment and an affiliate member of IGLTA (International Gay and Lesbian Travel Association). The agreement was signed by the Minister of Industry, Trade and Tourism, Reyes Maroto, and the founder of Queer Destinations and board member of IGLTA, Oriol Pàmies.

Training and awareness
Spain’s institutional support aims not only to underline the government’s commitment to designing new LGBTQ+ tourism experiences, but also to encourage training and awareness-raising among tourism agents across the country. Maroto assured that he will work “on innovation, so that LGBTQ+ tourists visiting Spain continue to be surprised, improve their experience and feel safe and free”. The founder of Queer Destinations hopes that this first national strategy for LGBTQ+ tourism will allow Spain to reposition itself as one of the best destinations in the world for this segment of travellers.
