The municipal campsite in Schönebeck (Elbe) is looking for a new operator: applications open until 9 October

The city of Schönebeck (Elbe), in north-eastern Germany, has launched an expression of interest procedure to identify a new operator for Campingplatz Kolumbussee, a municipal campsite located in the Plötzky district, on the shores of the lake of the same name.

The municipal administration aims to identify an operator capable of developing and managing a modern campsite with complementary tourism services and activities. The objective is to strengthen the attractiveness of the destination and, above all, increase the length of visitors’ stays.

The project must, however, maintain a strong connection with the local area. The future operator will therefore be required to integrate the campsite into the surrounding natural and recreational area, while preserving public access and the opportunity to freely experience and enjoy the natural environment and Lake Kolumbussee.

Ten hectares in the pine forest

In operation since the 1960s, Campingplatz Kolumbussee covers an area of approximately 10 hectares, set within a pine forest and extending along the shores of the lake. The campsite has a total of around 290 pitches, of which 260 are intended for seasonal campers and around 30 for short stays. Seasonal campers are offered annual contracts, which are automatically renewed from year to year unless cancelled.

Further information about the campsite can be found on the official website of the City of Schönebeck, including details of the central sanitary facilities, which were renovated in 2003, are accessible to people with disabilities and are equipped with hot showers, toilets, areas for washing dishes and preparing meals, washing machines and a disposal point for chemical waste water. A central waste collection area is also located nearby.

The City of Schönebeck is accepting expressions of interest until 9 October 2026, with the aim of launching a new management project for the site, which, thanks to its location between the lake and the pine forest, undoubtedly offers interesting development potential for open-air tourism.
