The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) has officially announced the relocation of its global headquarters from London to Madrid. The decision, which received unanimous approval from the executive committee on 18 December 2025, marks a historic shift for the organisation representing the global travel and tourism private sector. The operational move to the Spanish capital is scheduled for the first quarter of 2026.
Madrid was selected following a rigorous evaluation of several international cities. Key factors in the decision included strong institutional support from the Spanish government, a more competitive tax environment, and the city’s strategic position as an international hub. As noted by Manfredi Lefebvre, WTTC Chairman: “The decision to establish our global office in Madrid reflects a clear vision of what WTTC needs to succeed; this move ensures more efficient operations and allows us to access the best international talent”.
Furthermore, the strategic proximity to the headquarters of UN Tourism (formerly UNWTO) is expected to foster greater synergy between the world’s leading tourism governance bodies. Gloria Guevara, President and interim CEO, stated: “Being based in a competitive city like Madrid will help WTTC to grow further, offering closer engagement with our members worldwide thanks to a country that has prioritised travel and tourism”.
Ultimately, for the WTTC, departing London is also seen as a strategic response to post-Brexit logistical and administrative complexities, aiming to ensure better talent mobility and more seamless access to the European market. Madrid is thus set to become the new nerve centre for international tourism strategy, during a period of significant transformation for the hospitality industry and the outdoor sector.
