Good news for open-air tourism in Italy: on October 24th, the Chamber of Deputies definitively approved the conversion of the Air Quality Decree into law, which, among other provisions, establishes a fund within the Ministry of Tourism‘s budget, with an allocation of €32,870,000 for the year 2023. According to the regulation, these resources are intended “for funding investments proposed by Italian municipalities aimed at creating and upgrading equipped areas for temporary tourist stops and enhancing open-air tourism, through a specific call for proposals to be published by the Ministry.”
Minister Daniela Santanchè stated that the establishment of the fund provides a concrete response to the demands of the open-air tourism sector, which is constantly growing. “I have had the opportunity to engage with various industry associations and identify their needs, intervening promptly,” the minister commented. “In this way, we increasingly support the diversification of tourism offerings, meeting the growing demands for sustainable tourism and thus implementing our policies for the year-round operation of tourist activities”.
Equally satisfied with the achieved result is FDI Deputy Francesco Michelotti, who believes that this measure will help bridge the gap between Italy and other European countries regarding facilities for itinerant tourists. In his statement regarding the establishment of the fund, Michelotti emphasizes that this measure is the result of continuous dialogue and collaboration between the government and industry associations. The shortage of equipped rest areas had been recently reiterated by associations at the Parma Salone del Camper, and the government promptly responded with concrete intervention.
The deputy also hopes that during this legislative period, the goal of reduced 4% VAT for the purchase of campers by people with disabilities can be achieved. Michelotti has submitted a specific bill on this matter to Parliament.
