Croatian company Valamar Riviera marked its 70th anniversary with a grand celebration and numerous special events on December 14. The company, originally established in 1953 under the name Riviera Poreč, began its journey with around 200 beds to manage and a workforce of about 20 employees. Today, it stands as a leader in the Croatian tourism sector. From its humble beginnings, the company has grown significantly, boasting over 8,000 employees during the season, spread across more than 55 accommodation facilities, including hotels, resorts, and campsites in Croatia and Austria.

Over the decades, Valamar Riviera has played a pivotal role in the development of Croatian tourism, emphasizing high-quality tourism and demonstrating a knack for anticipating and embracing industry trends. In the last 20 years alone, the company has invested over a billion euros (with a total of €58 million invested for the 2023 season), showcasing a virtuous model of corporate management.

Dedicated to social responsibility and the well-being of its employees, Valamar is among the top 10 most desirable employers in Croatia, holding the title of the best employer in the tourism sector for five consecutive years. In 2023, the company invested €25 million in salaries and awards for its employees.

Investments in socially responsible activities represent 3 to 5% of the annual income. Through these resources, Valamar contributes to the community’s well-being by developing tourism-related infrastructure (such as cycling paths and walkways) and supporting cultural and sporting events. The company’s commitment to environmental conservation is evident through numerous awards received in this field, including recognition in 2022 from the Financial Times, which included Valamar in the list of European leaders in climate-related matters.
