To date, more than 70 villages in almost 40 countries have been recognised as Best Tourism Villages. UNWTO Member States can now submit for the 3rd edition up to 8 villages through their National Tourism Administrations (NTAs). <strong>Nominations will close on June 23, 2023<\/strong> and winners will be announced later this year.<\/p>\n<h4>Requirements and philosophy of the Best Tourism Villages by UNWTO<\/h4>\n<p>The &#8220;<em>Best Tourism Villages by UNWTO&#8221;<\/em>\u00a0recognises outstanding examples of tourism destinations, <strong>those facilities that are clearly committed to innovation and sustainability in all its aspects<\/strong>: economic, social, and environmental. Nominations are evaluated by an independent international advisory board of experts in various fields (conservation of cultural and natural resources, sustainability, tourism product development, marketing, value chain, etc.)<strong> based on nine areas<\/strong>, including sustainability, infrastructure, connectivity, and tourism value chain integration.<\/p>\n<h4>Enhancement programme<\/h4>\n<p>The network formed around this initiative by the best tourism villages of the UNWTO <strong>offers a space for the exchange of experiences, comparisons, and opportunities<\/strong>. In addition, all applicants will benefit from the contributions of experts and partners from the public and private sectors involved in the promotion of tourism for rural development. Villages that applied but did not fully meet the criteria for recognition will benefit from the &#8220;<em>Best Tourism Villages by UNWTO&#8221;<\/em>\u00a0<strong>update programme to fill gaps identified in the evaluation process<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Announcing the launch, UNWTO Secretary-General <strong>Zurab Pololikashvili<\/strong> said: &#8220;<em>Tourism can make a difference for rural communities by creating jobs, supporting businesses, and celebrating and protecting traditions. Through the Best Tourism Villages, UNWTO recognises rural destinations that are committed to making tourism a pillar of opportunity and
