La Seu d\u2019Urgell hosted the opening on Thursday of the 2nd Congress of Catalan Campsites<\/strong>, organised by the Catalan Campsite Federation (FCC)<\/strong>, with the participation of more than 300 industry professionals<\/strong>, institutional representatives and national and international experts. Within this framework, the organisation presented a pilot training project aimed at strengthening risk management and emergency response capabilities<\/strong> in outdoor tourism establishments.<\/p>\n

The initiative has been developed with the support of the regional administration<\/strong> and responds to a new context shaped by climate change, evolving regulations and the need to improve the sector\u2019s operational preparedness<\/strong> in the face of potential incidents.<\/p>\n

Training and drills in multiple phases<\/h4>\n

The project will be implemented in several stages<\/strong>. In an initial phase, awareness sessions and technical training<\/strong> will be organised for campsite owners, municipal officials and professionals involved in self-protection plans.<\/p>\n

Subsequently, practical actions<\/strong> will be introduced through drills and exercises<\/strong> coordinated with the Generalitat\u2019s emergency services, with the aim of enhancing real operational response in risk situations. The pilot phase will begin in the province of Girona<\/strong>, with the intention of later extending it across the whole of Catalonia.<\/p>\n

Safety as a strategic priority<\/h4>\n

During the opening of the congress, FCC President Miquel Gotanegra<\/strong> emphasised that Catalonia\u2019s leading position in European camping requires continued progress in areas such as prevention, safety and professionalisation<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Under the motto \u201cNature to enjoy, safety to trust<\/em>\u201d, the congress addressed over two days topics<\/strong> including the impact of climate change, risk management, early warning meteorological systems, coordination with emergency services, and the application of new technologies and artificial intelligence<\/strong> to the sector.<\/p>\n

Catalonia, a leading camping destination in Europe<\/h4>\n

Catalonia currently offers 352 campsites and 267,545 pitches<\/strong>. According to figures presented by the federation, the sector exceeded 21 million overnight stays in 2025<\/strong>, accounting for more than 30% of the region\u2019s total tourism<\/strong>. The FCC<\/a> represents 85% of Catalonia\u2019s camping capacity.<\/p>\n
