Gloria Fluxà is the new Vice President and Chairman of the Sustainability Committee of the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC). The Spanish entrepreneur takes over from Darrell Wade, who held the position since 2020. Recognized for her extensive experience and tireless dedication to promoting sustainable tourism, Fluxà has been Vice President and Chief Sustainability Officer of the Iberostar Group since 2018. She has also served as an administrator and president of the Iberostar Foundation, demonstrating unwavering commitment to environmental and social issues in every role.

Her efforts were also acknowledged by the World Economic Forum, which named her a “Young Global Leader” in May 2018 for her work in marine conservation through the “Wave of Change” initiative. This initiative focuses on reducing plastic use, promoting sustainable fishing practices, and improving coastal health.

“It is an honor to take on this role,” said Gloria Fluxà, “to support our industry’s commitment to leading significant change. Responsible tourism is not just a vision but a necessity for our planet and the well-being of our communities”.

Congratulating her on the appointment, Julia Simpson, President and CEO of WTTC, highlighted Gloria Fluxà’s impressive resume, stating that “her dedication to sustainability and her vision to harmonize economic growth with environmental conservation and social impact make her perfect for her new role as Vice President of WTTC and Chairman of the Sustainability Committee“.

During the Global Summit, WTTC also announced the appointment of Greg O’Hara, founder and CEO of Certares Management LLC, as the new Chair. With this new leadership, WTTC and its members are ready to propel the global travel and tourism sector towards a brighter and more sustainable future.
