Unionmare Veneto, an association that is part of the SIB (Sindacato Italiano Balneari, the Italian seaside trade union) and a member of Confturismo Veneto, has made a concrete proposal to help define the regional protocol that will give the green light to the reopening of the beaches. Also shared by Faita Veneto, this document is signed by all the delegations part of the association, from Bibione to Rosolina, and lists in 18 points the suggestions that ideally concern the path that the customer takes on his arrival at the bathing establishment, from the ticket office to his umbrella position.

A concrete proposal,” explained Alessandro Berton, president of Unionmare Veneto, “to actively participate in the ongoing creation between the Veneto region, Ulss3 Serenissima, Ulss4 Eastern Veneto and Ulss5 Polesana, trade associations and municipalities, of the protocol that will allow us to open and manage safely, for the summer 2020, our beaches“.

How to set up services

The document talks about how ticketing should be set up (for example with adequate isolation between operator and customer), toilets (manned, sanitized, equipped with dispensers with disinfectant solution), first aid assistance points, information points, changing rooms, waste collection, eventual service at the umbrella place, entertainment, games on the beach, smoking areas, outdoor showers, non-equipped areas, access routes to shaded areas (for those who have them), cabins and mini cabins, area of the umbrella place, rescue service, free transit area facing or adjacent to the shoreline and free areas.

For example, it is forbidden to aggregate people in unprovided areas, and therefore the document states the possible positioning of benches, chairs and tables and the methods of distributing food and drinks in the common areas to facilitate social distancing. Furthermore, no itinerant/commercial activities that have not been expressly authorized by the competent authorities can be carried out on the beaches.

Ready to reopen

Berton confirms that in the meantime the maintenance and accommodation work on the beaches has already started before summer opening and that, as soon as the government permits, umbrellas, services and all equipment will be set up. The umbrellas will be spaced, the structures and equipment constantly sanitized and all the necessary further measures will be taken. To avoid crowd, it will be possible to book online seats on the beach. Finally, the access system to free beaches is also being assessed, in order to guarantee social distancing and relative controls. Veneto is ready to start again.
