The world of Italian professional operators in outdoor tourism continues to question the future of this sector. In recent days, the PleinAir magazine and the PleinairClub have promoted a meeting between the main actors, initiating a dialogue between the associations of manufacturers and retailers of recreational vehicles and those representing outdoor accommodation facilities. On this occasion, a series of shared points and concrete actions were identified for the relaunch of a sector that has all the credentials to prove itself one of the most sustainable forms of tourism, environmentally friendly and in line with the new needs of safety and social distancing imposed by the coronavirus emergency.

Among the participants of the online event were Simone Niccolai, President of APC-Caravan and Camper Manufacturers Association, Vittorio Dall’Aglio, President of Assocamp, Monica Saielli, President of Assocamping Confesercenti, and Maurizio Vianello, President of FAITA-FederCamping. “The motorhome is now more than ever an extraordinary tool for going on vacation,” said APC President Simone Niccolai. “It is time to understand that outdoor tourism is a series A tourism, practiced by travelers with a high sensitivity towards the issues of sustainability and environmental protection.”

Among the points that emerged from the comparison, the need to recreate a virtuous dialogue between those who produce and sell residential vehicles and the structures that welcome them was highlighted. “It is important to establish a more solid relationship between the commercial sector and the world of camping, the most suitable structures to meet the new needs of hygiene, but also of safety, of the traveler in freedom,” said the President of Assocamp Vittorio Dall’Aglio.

In the current difficult context, the need to carry out concrete actions to promote the recognition of the sector at an institutional level was also highlighted. “The poor knowledge of institutions about the world and the needs of our sector is no longer acceptable,” said Assocamping Confesercenti President Monica Saielli. “Initially the measures in favor of tourism, such as the ‘holiday bonus’ and the exemption from the ‘IMU’ tax, were intended only for the hotel sector, and only after our request they also extended them to other types of accommodation. This is why it is important to make our voice heard even more forcefully“.

It is appropriate to find a common language that allows us to represent the needs of the sector in different aspects with a single vision, to intercept the attention of the institutions and administrations,” is finally the message that comes from Maurizio Vianello, President of FAITA- FederCamping. “Our relationship must take place on two levels: the one with the institutions, to whom we can address our requests, and the one with the users, to be reassured and educated for an increasingly safe and aware holiday“.

The participants in the meeting broke up sharing the intent to concert concrete actions to promote safe holidays in motorhome and camping, the desire to collaborate for the opening of a dialogue with institutions capable of giving the sector equal dignity compared to the others forms of tourism and the intention to continue the confrontation even after the end of the emergency.
