Assitai (Federturismo Confindustria), Assocamping (Confesercenti) e Faita Federcamping (Confcommercio) have produced a joint press release in order to urge the Italian Government to quickly set a date for the reopening of campsites and tourist villages.
It is going to be a difficult tourist season for the entire sector but the 2,650 companies involved into outdoor vacations in Italy are focused to react and reopen their facilities. Even if behaviors and safety protocols must be, now, enforced, the world of camping and tourist villages still remains one of the few opportunities to spend safe and rewarding holidays in the summer of 2020.
Campsites and tourist villages together make up the specific tourism segment called OUTDOOR TOURISM, with more than 10,000,000 guests for about 70 million annual presences and a value of 5 billion Euros of turnover. Italy is the European leader in open air tourism, with 150,000 people engaged in the sector, including direct and related employees.
Freedom, space and safety are distinguishing features of the outdoor touristic offer. There’s no doubt, indeed, that, thanks to the versatility of the structures that are able to dedicate up to 150 m2 per family and at the same time to guarantee a high degree of sanitation of services and accommodation, allowing guests a full and authentic freedom of movement in contact with nature, tourists can find an answer to the contingent demand for distance and sanitation imposed by the Covid pandemic.
However, it is necessary that the government and the technical-scientific support structures indicate the times and methods for a reopening as soon as possible, in order to allow to the companies an adequate preparation for receiving guests. The sector ATECO codes (55.20.10 – Tourist villages and 55.3 – Camping areas and areas equipped for camper vans and caravans) must be included as soon as possible among the allowed and regulated activities. The future of businesses and their workers depends on the timeline and on the clarity of prescriptions that must care to the primary health issue without forgetting the need to be able to enjoy a holiday. Our companies practice sanitation and are ready to comply with the guidelines already given as they will be validated by the scientific Authorities, welcoming guests in a context of quality and safety of all services offered.
Tourism is a primary resource for the national economy and ignoring the attention it deserves and belongs to, would represent an unforgivable error, carrying further damages if uncertainty and unmotivated closures will continue. We hope that in the upcoming days the Government and the Regions will state deliberations that allow the prompt restart of our tourist accommodation businesses in the open air ” say Angelo Macola – ASSITAI CONFINDUSTRIA, Monica Saielli – ASSOCAMPING CONFESERCENTI, Maurizio Vianello – FAITA say -FederCamping – CONFTURISMO.
