To combat fake news, the Croatian Tourism Association has launched the CroatiaCovid19 website

The Croatian Tourism Association (HUT) has launched the website www.croatiacovid19.info with the aim of promptly and accurately informing about the number of Covid-19 cases in the different Croatian regions. The country was divided into four areas: northern coast (Istria and Kvarner), southern coast (Dalmatia), central Croatia (Zagreb and surroundings) and eastern Croatia. The numbers of the spread of the virus and a simple map that highlights in different colors the situation in these four areas allow you to assess the situation at a glance.

The decision to create such an information tool comes from the fact that a platform like this can give a much more positive image of Croatia as a safe tourist destination. “We hope that this regionally based Coronavirus tracking system will help to better plan the holiday for all guests who come to Croatia”, point out from HUT.

According to the Association, the epidemic situation in the country is under control, but the image abroad needs to be improved. The state system is in fact defined as “slow and lazy”, as well as unable to communicate properly. The straw that broke the camel’s back seems to have been incorrect information spread in the Netherlands that would have led to a wave of cancellations by incoming tourists. Hence the choice to react at a private level to try to plug a situation that was becoming difficult.
