If in Italy the fog around reservations for the summer season has not yet dissolved, good news comes from Spain, where the specialized magazine Camping Profesional reports the data provided by the Spanish Federation of Campsites (FEEC). The first good result would have been achieved last month, when the end of the state of emergency (May 9) had increased bookings by 30 percent.
The FEEC now claims that since the alarm ceased, bookings have increased by 60%. The weekends of June show an occupancy rate that is around 90%, while for July and August we speak of 50% and 70% respectively. According to the Federation, the national average level of occupancy this summer could exceed 75%.
As happened last year in most European countries, also for 2021 mainly domestic tourists are expected: foreign bookings are still few, and even if they will increase over the next few weeks they should remain in the minority. The FEEC points out that most of those who have already decided to go camping are represented by those who approached this type of holiday for the first time last year.
According to Ana Beriain, president of the Spanish association, “if we follow the current trend in bookings, this summer we could reach the same level of occupancy as in summer 2019, ie more than 75%, which would be extraordinary news taking into account the minor number of foreign customers“.
