At the BIT – Borsa Internazionale del Turismo (held from 12 to 14 February at Fiera Milano), yesterday was organized the round table “Turismo Open-air: a tourism that counts’, introduced and moderated by Magda Antonioli, Professor at Bocconi University, ONT President, ETC Vice-President European Travel Commission. At the event participated also Alberto Granzotto, President FAITA-FederCamping; Marianna di Salle, MET Bocconi Coordinator; Valentina Fioravanti, Chief Marketing Office Human Company and Central Market; Loek Van De Loo, Founder Vacanze col Cuore. The data that emerged unequivocally testified the strong interest in outdoor holidays, no longer as an emotional response to the pandemic period, but as an authentic and lasting life choice linked to the search for places in tune with nature, where sustainability, the desire for alternative experiences, and sporting activity are possible.
Data e forecasts
In 2022, the 2,568 Italian companies in the sector recorded 10.3 million arrivals for 73 million presences for a total turnover of more than €5 billion, and further strong growth in the order of 10% is expected in 2023. The experiential component and eco-sustainability, in the sense of harmony between accommodation facilities and the surrounding area, are the reasons why open-air tourism is also attracting those who have never been on this type of holiday before, but new camping proposals, more comfortable and attractive such as camping villages and high-level ones such as glamping, have contributed.
High-quality locations in pleasant and evocative settings and with top-of-the-range services have contributed in no small part to the success of the open-air mode, making this sector dynamic and with great future prospects. Suffice it to say that 60% of the open-air offer is currently concentrated in just 6 regions (Veneto, Lombardy, Tuscany, Emilia-Romagna, Lazio, and Apulia), so there is still plenty of room for growth and development.
