Septeo Hospitality (formerly Sequoiasoft), a French company specializing in software solutions for the hospitality industry in Europe, has released its study on online bookings for December 2024. The analysis is based on a selection of 1,100 French campsites (chains, groups, municipal, independent, and other types) equipped with the eSeason Resa online booking system developed by Septeo. According to the barometer, 2025 begins with mixed signals.

While the market shows slight growth, the decrease in average spending per booking and the shortening of staysindicates a cautious start compared to 2024. However, a positive trend lies in the consistently increasing international demand, particularly driven by German clientele.

December bookings: growth in numbers but decline in average spending

The 2025 season starts positively but with moderate growth compared to the previous year. Data collected by Septeo Hospitality between December 1st and 31 shows an 8% increase in online bookings and a 5% rise in revenue. However, the average spending per booking declined compared to 2024: €1,225 versus €1,260 last year.

International clientele remain strongly attracted to French campsites, accounting for 44% of online bookings. The largest groups are: Dutch (15%), German (12%), Belgian (7%), British (4%) and Irish (1%). The remaining 56% of bookings came from French customers. These trends are consistent with those of the 2024 season.

Regarding accommodation preferences, mobile homes and chalets dominate bookings, making up 77% of requests, while pitches for tents or campers account for 23%.The departments with the highest number of online bookings are:Hérault, Var and Vendée. At the bottom of the ranking are Mayenne, Indre, and Tarn-et-Garonne.

Cumulative bookings for the 2025 season

The analysis of cumulative online bookings from October 1 to December 31, 2024, confirms a 5% increasecompared to 2024, both in booking volume and revenue generated. However, this growth is less pronounced than in previous seasons. Average spending for accommodations (mobile homes and chalets) rose by 1.8% (€1,380 versus €1,356 in 2024). Average spending for pitches, however, dropped by 3.3% (€661 versus €683 in 2024).

The average length of stays at the start of the year shows a slight decrease: accommodations: down 1.3% (8.43 days versus 8.54 days in 2024); pitches: down 3.1% (9.36 days versus 9.66 days in 2024).

German customers are growing and are one of the main drivers of outdoor tourism in France, with an online booking share of 13.7% (it was 11.6 % in 2024). Bookings by Belgian and British clients also increased. Conversely, the share of French customers has slightly declined: -1.5% compared to 2024. This trend, however, is considered normal for the start of the year.
