The Italian Ministry of Tourism has decided to grant more time to participate in the call for proposals worth nearly €33 million, aimed at creating and upgrading tourist rest areas in Italy. The new deadline is set for Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at 12:00 PM.

The initiative, which seeks to promote sustainable tourism and improve hospitality for travelers, has already garnered significant interest. To date, 209 official applications have been submitted, while another 905 are in the drafting phase.

“We are seeing an excellent participation rate with significant numbers,” said Minister of Tourism Daniela Santanchè. “However, given the importance of an unprecedented initiative like this, we intend to further expand the target audience”.

The extension was also decided following discussions with ANCI (the National Association of Italian Municipalities), which highlighted the importance of ensuring broader access to the opportunities provided by the call, particularly for smaller municipalities or those with limited resources.

The Ministry of Tourism’s call for proposals represents one of the most significant investments in local tourism in recent years, aiming to make Italy an even more welcoming destination for both Italian and international travelers. The initiative provides funding for projects to improve infrastructure dedicated to motorhomes, caravans, and other outdoor tourism solutions, while also promoting environmental sustainability and inclusivity.
