Campsites in Veneto’s coastal destinations recorded 94.6% occupancy during the Ferragosto week, outperforming hotels, which recorded 88.2%. In lakeside destinations, camping also outperformed hotels, with occupancy at 87.8% compared with 86.7% for hotels.

The figures, still provisional and covering the week from 10 to 16 August 2026, were compiled by the Veneto Region based on data from the Regional Statistical System (SISTAR), the Regional Tourism Observatory and HBenchmark, in collaboration with Federalberghi Veneto and FAITA Veneto.

The comparison between different types of accommodation highlights the strength of demand for the open-air sector during the busiest period of the summer season. In coastal destinations, campsite occupancy was more than six percentage points higher than that of hotels. In lakeside destinations, the difference was smaller but still favoured camping.

Overall, Veneto is recording a positive tourism season. In the first half of 2026, the region recorded 9.85 million arrivals and 29.09 million overnight stays, up 0.6% and 1.6% respectively. International demand continues to represent a significant share of the market, with international overnight stays up 3.1%.

Among the strongest-performing international markets are the Netherlands, where overnight stays increased by 10.3%, the United Kingdom (+8%), the United States (+6.4%) and Germany (+4.8%). These figures confirm the importance of international visitors to tourism in Veneto, although the increases cannot be directly attributed to campsite performance.

The regional authorities also report growing demand for mountain destinations, while destinations experiencing higher temperatures have seen a lower proportion of last-minute bookings. According to the regional administration, particularly hot weather may have influenced travellers’ destination choices.

For Veneto’s camping sector, however, the most significant figure remains occupancy: during the Ferragosto period, campsites outperformed hotels both in coastal and lakeside destinations, confirming the ability of the open-air sector to attract strong demand during the peak of the summer season.
