How can we imagine the Treehouse of the future? The [Tree]Ship project provides an answer: it will be technologically advanced and harmoniously integrated with nature. This revolutionary hospitality concept was created by the studio THE NE[S]T, led by architect Paolo Scoglio, and will be featured in one of the exhibitions at InOut | The Contract Community, the event dedicated to the indoor and outdoor contract community, taking place from October 9-11, 2024, at the Rimini Exhibition Center.
InOut gives space to the best trends and innovations to give visitors inspiration and suggestions. “One of the goals we pursue with InOut | The Contract Community,” says Gloria Armiri, Group Exhibition Manager of the Tourism & Hospitality Division at IEG, “is to inspire creativity in designers and architects while intriguing hospitality entrepreneurs with new experiential stay concepts for their guests. The [Tree]Ship concept by Paolo Scoglio fits perfectly within this vision“.
[Tree]Ship emerged from research conducted by THE NE[S]T studio under the [X]Ship project, which stands for Extreme Sustainable Human Innovative Pod. It is a masterful example of nature-connected hospitality, a technological gem that redefines outdoor experiential tourism. Like a spaceship landed on Earth, [Tree]Ship becomes part of the natural environment, seamlessly blending into it. Anchored to a central tree and supported by metal pillars, this micro-hospitality module allows guests to sleep suspended between earth and sky, offering an immersive nature experience where they are connected to the tree as a living system.
Innovative materials were used in its construction, based on generative parametric design and cutting-edge bio-construction technologies. [Tree]Ship is a module that can be enhanced with bio-responsive technologies, enabling it to actively adapt to the environmental stimuli of its surroundings. Its endoskeleton, made from recycled aluminum and shaped through parametric modeling and CNC machining, is covered with a high-performance composite material. This project completely reinvents the traditional treehouse, transforming it into the “Treehouse of the future”. It serves as a manifesto for conscious and responsible tourism, where humans and nature coexist in harmony.
At InOut 2024, the concept is declined in [Tree]Ship for Club del Sole in the UNESCO Biosphere of Lido di Spina and in the [River]Ship variant for River Tribe, destined for the stunning location of the Pollino Natural Park in Calabria, also a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
