The opening day of the Spanish campsites congress, organized in Toledo by the national federation (FEEC), set an ambitious agenda for the future of the camping industry, focusing on the role of digitalization and sustainability in shaping a modern and competitive camping sector. The first sessions addressed the importance of data intelligence, with industry experts highlighting how knowing your customer through data and leveraging new digital tools are critical for business growth.
Rafael de Jorge, founder of Growtur, explained how Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming the camping industry, with new tools like AI-enhanced search engines helping campsites reach customers through optimized SEO. He encouraged campsite owners to implement AI strategically to remain competitive.
In a panel on digitalization, industry experts such as Pere Marquès (Sènia Campings) and Álvaro García (Campingred) shared practical applications, from using AI in customer service to automating tasks that enhance guest experiences. Manuel Ortiz of Septeo stressed the importance of data collection across the customer journey, while Alfonso Leprevost of Holacamp noted the need for data-driven revenue management.
A report by EY showcased the economic impact of campgrounds in Spain, noting that the sector generated €1.3 billion in 2022, with staff costs making up nearly a third of revenue. This study underscored camping’s growing economic importance.
Sustainability was another central theme, with a panel exploring the “Sustainable transformation in camping“. Antonio Gonzalo from Monte Holiday presented their regenerative tourism model, designed to improve landscapes, reduce energy use, and create jobs. Pepe Frasquet and Jesús Vitoria emphasized the unique role campsites play in preserving natural environments and supporting local economies.
The day’s sessions underscored the sector’s commitment to innovation and sustainability, setting the stage for a second day of insights on economic trends, architectural design, and effective media management, aiming to guide campsites toward a resilient future in Spanish tourism.
