Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union, will host an interesting webinar on European Tourism on September 18, from 15:00 to 16:00 CEST. The online webinar will be streamed on Eurostat‘s website and Facebook account. It is open to everyone and no registration is required. The event will kick off with an address by Petra Sneijers, Acting Director of Business and Trade Statistics, followed by presentations from Christophe Demunter and Simon Bleyfrom Eurostat’s tourism statistics unit. They will provide an overview of European tourism statistics and short-stay accommodations offered via online platforms.
For instance, it will be discussed that 12% of overnight stays in tourist accommodations in the EU in 2023 (a total of nearly 3 billion) were concentrated in just four regions: Canarias (Spain), Ile de France (France), Cataluña (Spain), and Jadranska (Croatia). Additionally, 719 million short-term rental bookings were made through Airbnb, Booking, Tripadvisor, and Expedia. After presenting these and other data on European tourism, there will be a Q&A sessionwhere participants can submit questions via the Slido platform.
Eurostat’s webinars aim to promote the use and understanding of statistics produced by the office. Over the past four years, Eurostat has hosted 26 webinars on a wide range of topics, including finance, demographic trends, agriculture, tourism, trade, and the environment.
