The three most important German associations in the caravanning sector – BVCD (Bundesverband der Campingwirtschaft in Deutschland e.V.), CIVD (Caravaning Industrie Verband e.V.), and DCHV (Deutsche Caravaning Handels-Verband e V.) – have signed a cooperation agreement to strengthen their role in supporting the camping industry. This is a growing industry, with an annual turnover of approximately €34.5 billion, making it a key sector not only in tourism but also in the overall German economy.
For this reason, the associations BVCD (which represents over 1,200 campsites), CIVD (which brings together nearly all European leisure vehicle manufacturers, as well as service providers, institutions, and industry associations), and DCHV(the largest industry association in Germany for specialized trade and caravan rentals) have decided to collaborate more closely to promote the importance of camping tourism and to urge policymakers to make decisions that will help build the future of the sector, such as those related to infrastructure expansion.
Currently, the camping industry in Germany includes over 3,200 campsites, 5,400 motorhome parking areas, and more than 68 million overnight stays. These significant figures require corresponding development policies. The first national summit where representatives of the three signatory associations will meet is set to take place soon in Berlin. During this meeting, a common course of action will be established around key issues, such as the introduction of differentiated regulations for motorhome parking areas and campsites, the promotion of simplified land use procedures, and the adoption of differentiated municipal laws for small parking areas and larger facilities (which require stricter regulations).
