2021 is confirmed as the best in the 60-year history of KOA (Kampgrounds of America). The largest US operator in the field of camping, as stated in the Q4 Business Report 2021, recorded an increase in revenues of 33.2% compared to 2020 and an increase of 33% respect of 2019, which was the previous record year. Advance deposits on future assets increased by 51% from the previous year, indicating that this incredible growth will continue into 2022.
“We are excited to close 2021 and go into 60th year in business with our strongest financial performance ever, and even more pleased with the indicators of future growth”, said Toby O’Rourke, president and CEO of KOA. “The pandemic served as a catalyst for many people to try camping for the first time. People are choosing to camp over other travel options and they are choosing to camp at KOA’s”.
In continuous growth
Thanks to the strength of the KOA brand and services, the company’s franchise camping system continued to grow in 2021. At the end of the year, 26 new locations were added, six of which were added in the fourth quarter of 2021. “We are very encouraged that so many campgrounds see the value of partnering with KOA”, said Ann Emerson, chief operating officer of KOA franchise. “Both longstanding campgrounds and new players starting from the ground up know that KOA can help them deliver a top-of-the-line experience that is trusted among campers and travelers. We are well poised to continue leading the camping market”.
KOA also continues to expand its portfolio of owned campsites. In 2021, it added 15 new locations or land for future development. In the fourth quarter of 2021, the company acquired three new campsites and land in Florida, California, and New York.
