Scame Parre: versatile and advanced solutions for electric vehicles

Scame Parre, making use of a solid know-how as a manufacturer of electrical equipment since 1963, entered the e-mobility sector as early as 1999 by presenting the first connector specifically designed for recharging electric vehicles as a world premiere. Since then, the offer has been developed to such an extent that Scame Parre is now considered a true point of reference, thanks to a specific company division exclusively dedicated to electric mobility with the aim of offering a complete range of products and services, in accordance with the increased needs of a market in continuous and rapid evolution.

As for the charging stations, the offer is divided into wall boxes for wall installation and columns for ground installation, all compliant with charging in “Mode 3” according to IEC/EN 61851-1. Even focusing attention only on the columns, certainly the most suitable solution for an accommodation facility such as camping, there are many proposals in the catalog, each with its own peculiarities, but all suitable for AC recharging with powers between 3.7 and the 22kW.

Columns for every need

The CA Libera Series columns can be equipped with a maximum of four Type 3A or Type 2 sockets arranged laterally. Made of painted steel, they have their own identity trait in the removable plexiglass panels, resistant to UV rays and completely customizable from a graphic point of view. By sacrificing the removable panels in favor of a completely stainless-steel structure, the columns of the CB Libera Series prove to be the best choice for installation in maritime areas thanks to their high degree of resistance to saline mists as well as, of course, to weathering.

The design becomes an important component in the Series BE-A and Series BE-B stations, which differ from each other in the arrangement of the sockets, again Type 2, frontally in the first case and laterally in the second. Designed by the Trussardi + Belloni Design studio, they are made of steel with a powder-coated finish that further increases their resistance to corrosion and aggressive agents. At the same time, they represent an aesthetic element that enhances the elegance and rigorous style of the product as well as the sober colors that are able to harmonize even in a naturalistic context such as that of the campsite.

Safety for children too

What unites the various series of stations, net of the individualities just illustrated, are the Type 2 sockets equipped with the “child safety shutter” system patented by Scame, which ensures the IPXXD degree of protection by preventing accidental contact with live parts. This is in addition to the integrated vandal-proof protection device that prevents access to unrecognized users, while constituting at the same time an additional protection of the socket against the ingress of dust and water. All this while still allowing you to insert the charging cable connector into the socket in a simple, intuitive, and one-handed way.

Another common feature from a technical point of view is that all the stations are available in various configurations and with different operating modes: Free, which allows free access to recharge; Personal, with user access control by means of an RFID recognition system; and finally Web/Net, the most advanced, with the stations in dialogue with the remote management system, using the OCPP communication protocol, and which makes it possible to integrate the station with various payment systems and smartphone apps. The Web/Net versions can also operate in master/slave logic (1 master and 15 slaves for a total of 16 recharging points), while using the software it is possible to increase the number of remotely controllable recharging points and the integration of previous series charging stations.

Automatic load balancing

Particularly interesting is the possibility of equipping the stations with the Load balancing function, which allows you to create the infrastructure of a recharging area by installing various outlet points even if the existing system has a limited maximum power, less than that which all stations would require if they were to be used simultaneously for recharging. This function therefore allows you to divide the total power made available from the system’s power supply line and distribute it equally among the vehicles that are loaded.

Through a particular algorithm, in fact, the system can detect if a vehicle has finished charging and then redistribute its current share on the other sockets or resume any suspended charges. New charging sessions will initially be suspended until new power is available, with the connector stuck in the socket. This system, which can be controlled remotely, thus allows the area manager to increase the number of charging stations without resorting to an increase in the total power of the system, limiting the initial investment on the infrastructure side. This function is therefore optimal in those cases where it is necessary to install several recharging points, but with limited system power.

For example, if a car park has a 22kW power line available, it could have two charging points of 22kW each: a single car can charge up to 22kW, while two cars will charge up to a maximum of 11kW each. If the points taken were 4 or 5, a third car would charge at 7kW, while 4 cars connected in charge would have 3.5kW each available (or approximately 20% of the available energy made 100 the total of the hypothetical system).

Smart management

It is important to remember that, in the event that the maximum current of the system is not sufficient to allow a simultaneous charge on all the recharging sockets occupied, the new charging sessions will be suspended pending the supply of energy, but with the connector blocked in the socket until new current arrives to feed new sessions. The recharging points managed through Load balancing are remotely controllable through the Scame Management system and the number of recharging points can be increased without limits, keeping the structure in multiples of 16, with the logic of the master/slave system.
