Itinerant tourism confirms its importance also in Spain. According to Aseicar, the association of companies operating in the sector, 2,924 new vehicles were registered between July and August, with a growth of 44.8 percent compared to the same period last year. And even in June it was not bad: registrations were 4,417, or almost 1,200 more than in 2019. “Due to the lockdown, all the demand was concentrated in the summer months“, said the president José Manuel Jurado to the Hosteltur site. “The two strengths that have increased demand in recent months are the safety and freedom offered to the traveler”.

According to Jurado, 40 percent of buyers have approached this sector for the first time. Taking into account the sales figures from the beginning of the year, a thousand fewer vehicles have been sold in Spain, but given the positive trend there is good hope for recovery.

In this context, the FECC (Federacion Espagñola de Clubes Campistas) speaks of a summer occupation of Spanish accommodation facilities of 65%, a figure to be compared with the 80% recorded in 2019. The Federation also reports the emergence of a new trend: the presence of thousands of campers more than in the past, a sign that the traveling tourist is increasingly appreciating the possibility of using campsites as a base for their vacation.
