Attitudes of prudence diminish as the season progresses. In mid-June we begin to understand what the seasonal trend will be and the notes of optimism rise. From Spain comes the news, published by the Spanish Federation of Campsites (FEEC), that the summer that is about to begin could be the best in their history. Even before the pandemic, the indicators were not so positive.

The growth trend, before the arrival of the Coronavirus had lasted ten years, and in 2019 it had reached 85% occupancy with 4,448,000 presences and 22,781,000 overnight stays. The latest forecasts for the Spanish market speaking of a forecast of over 90% occupancy, with 5 million guests and 23 million overnight stays. Many campsites and tourist villages are preparing for the period of July and August, to display the “sold out” sign. According to data released by the FEEC, the average length of stay will be 8 days with an average expenditure per family per day of €110.

“We are facing a historic summer, the result of the work and effort of an entire sector that has opened its doors to thousands of Spanish families and who have been pleasantly surprised by the very high level of our facilities,” said Ana Beriaín, president of the Spanish Federation of Campsites. “It is clear that we are already a very important part of the national and international tourist offer in Spain, but we want to continue to demonstrate the potential we have throughout the year, not just during the holidays“.
