The German BVCD, which brings together over 1,200 professional camping operators, has a new executive committee. On March 1, 2022, the Potsdam General Assembly elected SPD MP Stefan Zierke as the new president. Gunter Riechey, who has held this position since 2009, leaves to encourage the emergence of new ideas and stimulate the industry. Stefan Zierke, originally from Uckermark, is an avid camper and tourism expert and looks forward to being able to make his contribution.

During his tenure, Zierke would like to address two major issues in particular. “The camping industry has been booming for some time and the demand is constantly growing,” he said. “This has consequences for both tourists and campground owners. We need a good framework and set minimum standards for pitches in campsites and public spaces to protect our resources and nature. On the other hand, the industry needs more skilled workers and more flexible working time rules in order to meet a highly seasonal demand. These are two important issues that I will be happy to support in the political arena”.

The new president will be joined by the four new vice presidents elected on November 23, 2021: Kurt Bonath, Thorsten Paul, Oliver Behrens and Johann Köck.
