More than a third of the 38 campsites belonging to the premium association LeadingCampings of Europe are among the most popular with German campers throughout Europe. This is the result of the Top 100 list recently published by the ADAC camping portal PiNCAMP. Among the ten most popular campsites of Europe 2022, there are also four LeadingsCampings: 2nd place was taken by a new member of the association, the Villaggio Turistico International in Bibione, 3rd place among the most popular European campsites goes to the Camping und Ferienpark Wulfener Hals in Fehmarn, the Zaton Holiday Resort in Croatia takes 4th place and the Südsee-Camp in Lüneburger Heide is the 7th most popular European campsite.
The Italian campsites Piani di Clodia on Lake Garda, Caravan Park Sexten in the Dolomites and Union Lido in Cavallino, Cikat in Croatia, Feddet Strand Resort in Denmark, Strandcamping Waging on Lake Waging, Camping Hopfensee, Camping Wirthshof on Lake Constance and Camping und Ferienpark Havelberge in the Mecklenburg Lake District follow at the other places.

According to the ADAC ranking, there are 6 LeadingCampings among the 10 most popular campsites in Germany: on the podium, in first place, is Camping und Ferienpark Wulfener Hals, in second place Südsee-Camp, and in third place Strandcamping Waging am See. From 6th to 10th place are Camping Hopfensee (6th place), Camping Wirthshof (7th place) and Camping und Ferienpark Havelberge (10th place).
Comment by Simone Pokrandt, Managing Director of LeadingCampings of Europe
The current ADAC ranking of the best campsites in Europe underlines the high level of quality of the LeadingCampings of Europe. “We are very pleased that no fewer than 13 of the LeadingCampings are among the best in Europe,” says Simone Pokrandt, Managing Director of LeadingCampings of Europe. “But at the same time, the award is an encouragement for us to always defend our market leadership in this premium segment with further creative services and to continue setting new standards.”
Europe’s best campsites are united under the umbrella of LeadingCampings: “Whether small top family-run campsites with exceptional wellness offers for couples or luxury campsites with glamping offers and a recreational infrastructure in XXL for families – each campsite of the 38-member ‘LeadingCampings family’ has its own special charm and maintains its independence,” says the Managing Director of LeadingCampings. “In this way, the campsites of the cooperation represent the entire range of premium accommodation – from premium pitches for camper vans, tents or caravans, to high-quality and fully equipped mobile homes, tree houses, flats and hotels“.
Membership of LeadingCampings grows: there are now 38 top campsites
In 2023, LeadingCampings will welcome two new members: the popular 5-star resort Villaggio Turistico Internazionale in Bibione – which ranked second in the ADAC list of Europe’s 100 most popular campsites (see above) – and Parco delle Piscine in Tuscany. “With the two new members, LeadingsCampings has once again been able to expand and refine its extensive portfolio of outstanding campsites; the association now has a total of 6 luxury campsites in Italy,” says Simone Pokrandt. “The organisational autonomy, the first-class entertainment infrastructure and the range of accommodation on offer have convinced us completely.”
Nominated for a Camping Oscar
One of Europe’s LeadingCampings is the five-star Camping und Ferienpark Havelberge in the Mecklenburg Lake District. Thanks to its consistently sustainable management, the flagship of the Haveltourist Group has also been nominated for the Oscar of the camping industry, the coveted ADAC Camping Award 2023 in the category “Sustainability and Environmental Awareness”. The jury’s motivation: “The Camping und Ferienpark Havelberge has proven for years that consistent sustainable management and economic success are not contradictory. In fact, the opposite is true: thanks to its sustainable orientation, it is a favourite with campers. The campsite managers work intensively on the expansion of sustainable facilities. It is also the first campsite in Germany to participate in the Voluntourism project. The campers contribute to the nature conservation work within this project“.
Another LeadingCampings member, Zaton Holiday Resort near Zadar in Croatia, is also thrilled to have been nominated for the ADAC Award 2023. It convinced the jury in the category “reservations”. Here is the reason for the nomination: “The 5-star campsite is a pioneer of digitization in the camping industry. At a very early stage, the Croatian camping experts relied on online booking via their own website and through interfaces with other booking platforms“.
German camping personality 2022
Creative manager and managing director Gunter Riechey of Haveltourist GmbH, which in addition to the Havelberge campsite and holiday park operates seven other campsites in the Mecklenburg Lake District, was awarded with the ACSI Personality Award 2022 at the 7th North German Camping Day in Travemünde.
