The World Tourism Event – World Tourism Exhibition for World Heritage Sites, scheduled from September 21 to 23, will be held this year in Turin, Italy. The 2023 edition, in addition to the presence in the exhibition space of Unesco sites and B2B workshops, will be enriched with an area dedicated to in-depth analysis of current issues related to tourism and the conservation, promotion, and enhancement of World Heritage sites. Furthermore, it will be an opportunity to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Unesco Intangible Heritage Convention and to focus on climate change and its impact on tourism.
These will be some of the themes at the center of the next edition of the WTE, on which institutional representatives, tour operators, experts, and testimonials will discuss. The public will be able to see the Unesco World Heritage up close and at the same time the reality of the territories and local communities through their geographical and gastronomic typicalities. Operators in the sector will also have the opportunity to network for the development and improvement of valorisation strategies for the sites themselves.
“Piedmont is particularly rich in culture, values and knowledge to be communicated to travellers,” commented Vittoria Poggio, Councilor for Culture and Tourism of the Piedmont Region. “Making our Unesco heritage sites known and valorising them is what we intend to do through the World Tourism Event without forgetting the great intangible heritage that Piedmont can boast. By creating shared actions and synergies between institutions and private individuals, we will be able to achieve the goal we have set ourselves – raising the bar even higher in terms of the quality of the tourism offer and the impact that tourism can have on the economic development of our territories and communities”.
The choice of Turin as the venue for the World Tourism Event is motivated not only by the city’s and the Piedmont Region’s wide range of World Heritage properties and sites, but also by the dynamism and variety of the tourism sector operating in the area. WTE represents therefore an important opportunity for exhibitors to come into contact with the pool of operators from the region and north-west Italy.
