The PiNCAMP 2025 Price Analysis provides an overview of camping costs across Europe, based on a sample of around 2,000 campsites with an ADAC rating of 3-stars or more, located in top tourist destinations such as Switzerland, Croatia, Italy, Spain, France, the United Kingdom, Slovenia, Austria, Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands and Sweden. Compared to last year, the average price increase has been fairly moderate (+6%), confirming that camping holidays remain a viable option for families in 2025. According to the study, a family of three will spend an average of €52 per night to stay at a three-star or higher campsite during the peak summer season. The calculation includes costs for two adults, one child under 10, and the pitch fee for a camper van/car or caravan with towing vehicle.
Among major European tourist destinations, Germany remains the most affordable option with an average price of just €40 per night (up from €38 last year). Sweden follows with €43, then France (€50) and Denmark (€51). On the higher end of the spectrum are Croatia and Italy, with average nightly costs of €68 and €66 respectively (in Italy, in 2024, the average price per night was €62), along with Switzerland and Slovenia (both at €62). Austria (€53), the UK (€54), and the Netherlands (€55) fall in the mid-range. Spain, currently experiencing a boom in open-air tourism, saw the sharpest price increase: up 9% from 2024, with average costs rising from €55 to €60 per night.
More price flexibility, booking in advance is key
With nearly 43 million overnight stays recorded in Germany in 2024, open-air holidays reached a new milestone in the country’s tourism sector. According to Uwe Frers, CEO of PiNCAMP, the moderate price increases have generally been accepted by campers, who understand the reasons behind them. While families are not giving up on vacations, there’s a noticeable trend toward slightly shorter stays, with bookings often reduced by one or two days.
The good news is that prices are significantly lower during the low season, up to one-third less than peak summer rates. Campers using the ADAC Campcard (available free with ADAC Camping and Stellplatz guides and app) can benefit from discounts of up to 50% on overnight stays.
Meanwhile, the camping industry has adopted a dynamic pricing model, with rates varying based on demand and availability. For instance, campsites in popular locations – such as Lake Garda, the Baltic Sea coast, and the Croatian Adriatic – adjust their prices upward during high demand in peak season.
